EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE: Santa Rosa and Walton Counties, FL
FACILITIES AND FEES: A permit is required for all recreational users. The very large map included with your
permit shows allowed for public recreation. Trails and dirt roads are marked with numbers or names on the map,
but the the actual trails are not marked; therefore, it is highly suggested that you ride with someone who knows
the trails well if you don't have a good sense of direction or ride with a GPS. As the world's largest air force base
(724 square miles of reservation), there are many areas to ride and numerous trailheads throughout Santa Rosa
and Walton counties in the 280,000 acres available for public use and enjoyment. Park trailers on side of dirt
roads at trail heads. There are no "facilities". Carry Eglin permit with you when riding. To obtain a permit, contact
the Jackson National Guard at (850) 882-4164 or send a photocopy of your driver's license with full name, date
of birth, and $7 in money order or personal check made to "DFAS-LI Eglin AFB" (no cash). Mail to Eglin
Natural Resources Branch, 107 Highway 85 North, Niceville, FL 32578. You will receive a permit within a
week or two.

DESCRIPTION/TERRAIN (Buck Pond and Weaver Creek trailheads
on South Hwy 87 in Santa Rosa County): Terrain is similar to the
Blackwater horse trails, but with more deep sand and some decent hills
(check out Buck Pond photos below). Lots of stream crossings. Some
of the trails are dirt roads with some vehicle traffic (hunters and
boaters). Although not allowed, motorized dirt bikers and ATVs love to
use the trails. Riders have also come across dog-walkers and families
shooting off model rockets.
